Rabbi Dr Bernard
Susser and Mrs Judith Samuel at the launch of his book
"The Jews of Devon & Cornwall" in Exeter Synagogue,
1993
The documents and
papers of the late Rabbi Dr Bernard Susser, historian of
the Jews of South West England, together with his
computer disks, have been placed in the care of Frank
Gent of the Exeter Synagogue. He has been extracting the
data from Rabbi Susser's disks, and publishing these,
both in printed form and on this site, in honour of Rabbi
Susser's memory and his work for the Jews of South West
England, both present and past.
These will soon be
made available on line as downloadable files. Some hard
copies of the book, and also the CD, will still be available
by special request. Also to be made available are the burial
records of the Great Synagogue,
1791-1823.

The Lost Jews of
Cornwall
This
book fills a major gap in both Anglo-Jewish and Cornish
history, and draws together for the first time over sixty
years of research by major Jewish scholars and Cornish
researchers. The book updates and revises earlier
publications and contains previously unpublished
concerning these 18th and 19th century communities from
1720 to
1913.
